Banchan

After enjoying our first ever ride on at hot air balloon, we came to this restaurant to have a jovial feast. However, the moment we enter the eatery, somehow, we feel stuffy with a less cozy environment. Not sure is it due to its inefficient internal air ventilation for the smoke emitted from BBQ. Anyway, we find a nice spot and settle down with some ban chan. The spread seems pretty much localized and less sumptuous compared to other Korean dishes that I have dined at various outlets so far. There is one ban chan that triggers our curiosity; i.e. Korean Sweet Black Beans (Kongjaban). They are actually hard and not as soft as what we thought. Being a sweet and nutty side dish, these seasoned black beans are said to be a protein-filled complement to any Korean meal. I guess this first encounter doesn’t really leave a pleasant impression. Or it could be just another case of acquired taste. I guess so far only the brinjal ban chan got thumbs up from us. Tofu Jigae The Beancurd Jigae served here is pretty on the plainer side. You could make a good guess from its appearance, which is less reddish. They boil the bean curbs, soya bean paste, vegetables together with others like crabstick filaments and abalone mushroom. The cauliflower are soft to the taste bud, so does the oyster mushroom. You could enjoy this soupy pot with a bowl of white rice. As I think the taste is bit bland, so I decided to pour in some kimchi to spic it up. And that delights me amusingly! :D Pan- fried Mandu Chicken Mix Now comes the time to try out the pan-fried version of mandu. These dumplings are filled up with minced chicken meat and also some vegetable to give it some texture. You may then dip in the given sauce for some vinegar-soya sauce taste. The dumpling skin is of moderate thickness and bit oily. I guess I enjoy the usual soupy dumpling more. And one more thing that got me puzzled is, why the plate used for this dish bears the brands of another shop located just at its lower ground? Hmm…..now I wondered the real sources……~.~
