Sumo A(shuka Kurage/Ebiko/Ban Ban Ji) | JoinMe - Food Review Malaysia

Sumo A(shuka Kurage/Ebiko/Ban Ban Ji)

Its been a while I din go for food hunting with JoinMe. Sumo Onigiri is situated at Damansara Uptown, but it is quite hard to find, as the shop is small and maybe it is because of the night time. 2 waiters welcome us with a big hand, and I choose to sit inside, as the counter table is kinda small for me. A waitress came after, and showed me the menu. It is a japanese-phonic language, by mean it is english with japanese sounds. I just simply choose a Sumo A(shuka Kurage/Ebiko/Ban Ban Ji), cause it is pretty look colorful from the menu. Within few minutes, the food was served. It is basically a japanese rice, top with egg-strip, sea-weed, fried chicken, fish roe, mash potato and marinated jellyfish-thingy. It is indeed colorful, white, yellow, green, red, brown, and black. they are served with a chawanmushi and miso soup Japanese rice- well-cooked, and still maintain the chewy texture, but it was tasteless. I like the egg-strip, it is eggy and with little sweetness. Sea-weed - I dont really like the sea-weed, cause it is a bit lack in taste and texture, and I dont know the function of it, either to wrap the food together, or just a compliment side-dish. I eat it in both way, not much of surprise. Fried chicken- This is the most disappointing side-dish. It is lack in flavour, hard, and I suspect it been fried again and again. Fish roe - it was a generous amount. I like the popping texture of it. It is quite fresh, and the mayo add in some taggy taste to it. mash-potato- this side dish is indeed precious, it is one of my favourite. sadly, it is just a small scoop. It is moist, with little potato chunk. I like the texture, and the flavour is just nice Jelly-fish thingy - not really know what it is, but had it a few times in a japanese restaurant. Like the marinated flavour, chewy texture. chawanmushi- is basically a steam-egg, very smooth, and flavourful. The egg flavour was so rich and the seasoning is just nice. miso-soup - Not really like the soup, it is a bit too salty. But to compliment the rice, it is just nice. The saltiness bring out the sweetness of the rice. It is a bit weird to eat it this way, but it taste nice. It is a small shop, but arrangement and decoration made it spacious. I like how the wall is decorated. As a matter of fact, there are 2 shop in the same shop lot. The front is selling Sumo-onigiri, the back is a Taiwanese Tea shop, should I say it is a fully utilized shop.
